In week where all the main action centred on Royal Ascot, the Duke of Hastings was heading down the highway to Royal Geelong on Friday. The conditions were cold and rainy however the expectations were high, based on his brilliant second last start placing at Ballarat.
Simon and the team have been extremely patient with this boy, knowing that he will furnish into a nice four year old. With a core group of eagers and excited owners on hand, the stage was set and he did not disappoint.
The Duke started well and positioned himself perfectly, just off the speed ready to pounce. Turning for home, the leader snuck away similarly to Ballarat but this time The Duke was ready. With the long straight and heavy track in his favour, this big striding gelding covered the ground and won easily.
The gap to third was huge and as such, showed us what potential lies ahead for this son of Sacred Falls. Congratulations to all the owners who have been extremely patient with The Duke, as look forward to the coming month ahead.
