On Saturday at Flemington there was a huge sense of anticipation in the air with our star filly She’sallshenanigans lining up for what looked to be her stiffest test against a crack field of the best fillies in the country in the Listed Cap D’antibes Stakes.
Pre-race, Shelly had her game face on and was in no mood for waiting around as she strutted around the mounting yard looking fit and ready to fire. Drawing in the middle of the track, She’sallshenanigans jumped in her customary sharp fashion and sat on the speed through the early stages of the race. She was allowed to drift towards the outside at a high cruising speed by McDougall alongside the leader Tiz Enuff who was travelling fiercely. At the 300m mark she was asked for an effort and responded accordingly putting a gap on the highly fancied favourite Skirt the Law and drew away from the field. She tired a touch late but the damage was done with the Philip Stokes filly unable to close the gap.
This was an exciting performance from this filly and a banner day for the stable as we look to plot a path to the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes with her on Derby Day. Her next start will likely be Group 2 Danehill Stakes on Turnbull Stakes at Flemington and with further natural improvement she should be hard to beat there.
There’s a plethora of people to thank including the ownership group who are enjoying a wonderful ride with her, as well as trackrider/strapper Chloe Azzopardi who has this filly absolutely flying. We look forward to seeing what the rest of the Spring brings for our star filly!
