My history in horse ownership started extremely slow as where the horses I owned.
The horses I purchased with my wife before meeting Simon where mainly horses trainers couldn’t sell or no one wanted and hence why we couldn’t get a winner. I think we owned nearly 20 horses before our 1st winner.
It was than a friend of mine who owned horses with Simon and still does Lachlan Williams said I should go and speak with Simon or spend some time with him at the sales in Melbourne.
I sent Simon a short list and he said politely it was full of rubbish and to come along to sales and buy horses on type not on pedigree with the budget we had.
It wasn’t long after we meet Simon he talked us into buying shares in a couple of backward horses from NZ ready to run sale called Rock n Gold and Odeon for a combined spend of around $150k.
Both horses have nearly won $1.7million in prizemoney between them, but more importantly gave us and our friends some of our most memorable days in racing and socially.
The feeling when your horse wins in town or in the bush is extremely addictive & satisfying as it is a long road from the sales to the racetrack. Hence why the celebrations go well into the night before craving the next win and adrenalin rush it gives us, and our friends and family who we have horses with.
