It was an exciting day on Tuesday as classy Rubick three year old Ruada notched up his maiden win in hot conditions at Bendigo. Sent around third pick in the market coming off a nice trial, Ruada jumped cleanly from the inside barrier with Damian Lane aboard. He got a lovely run in behind the speed until early in the straight when the pressure went on and and the field fanned. He was held up for a run momentarily before a bit of Damian Lane magic saw him duck back to the inside and find a needle eye opening. He charged through the gap and sprinted up the inside to take the lead and hold on to win by half a length.
He was still very green but most impressive was his bravery to take the gap and surge into the race. With a lot of improvement to come both mentally and fitness wise, we think this gelding has a bright future and look forward to seeing him go through the grades over the summer.
A big thankyou to Ozzie Kheir who bred the horse and gave us the opportunity to train it, as well as Justin Docherty, Matt Becker and a group of terrific owners who were thrilled to be trackside to see Ruada win. It was SZR’s first win in those colours and we’re very confident it won’t be the last. No decisions have been made on his next start but we’re hopeful we’ll see him in town this preparation.
