On Friday night at Pakenham Simon unveiled his first UK import for the stable and it’s fair to say the result was a nice surprise. Despite the horse working very well in the build up to the race, he was coming off a long break after winning at 2400m last start. He was purchased as a staying prospect, however has shown good ability and perhaps he may be a little more versatile.
With Blaike McDougall on jumping from the wide gate, he was forced to take his medicine and sit back second last with cover. The leaders set a really strong tempo allowing Race Card a lovely cart into the race. When Blaike was able to angle out to the middle of the track he unleashed a powerful sprint to finish over the top of them and was soft on the line.
Race Card was sourced by bloodstock agent Cameron Cooke from the UK and he looks a promising stayer in the making that we’ll have plenty of fun with over the summer months. Congratulations to the owners and thank you for your patience throughout the process of getting this horse to the track.
