An excited group of owners gathered at Caulfield on Saturday to see Little Stevie take out the 1100m F&M BM84 on Saturday. After putting together an outstanding campaign thus far, the writing was on the wall after posting some slick sections at Flemington last start.
The 7 day backup proved a masterstroke from Simon as she paraded as well as she ever has and was very calm going to the gates. She bounced well from the wider gate and was able to find a beautiful spot three pairs back on the outside. The speed was genuine from the outset with Twist of Fury and Lady Solly going forward and really putting the foot down to allow Stevie a lovely drag into the race. Rounding the bend Stevie ambled into the race and with a couple of shakes of the reigns from apprentice Matthew Cartwright the race was over. Stevie held off a couple of late challenges but nothing was ever going to catch her and she scored a comfortable win.
Little Stevie now takes her record to 6 wins and more than $313,000 in prizemoney from her 29 starts and she’s only getting better with age. Congratulations to her wonderful group of owners, quite a few of whom were on track for the celebrations. Also a big well done to Matthew Cartwright, who takes his record on SZR horses to 3 winners from only 6 starters.
