There is no doubt that the Golden Slipper Stakes has been an outstanding source of successful stallions and the 2021 winner Stay Inside is an exciting prospect.
A son of the star stallion Extreme Choice – who has managed to sire a Golden Slipper and a Melbourne Cup winner – Stay Inside won three of his first four starts.
His dominant Slipper victory is a particularly memorable one as he left in his wake the likes of Anamoe, Artorius and Home Affairs and he is siring eye-catching types who have been selling for up to $1 million.
Stakes winning mares make the best broodmares and this colt is the first foal for the talented Deroche who certainly knew how to find the line – winning 13 of her 26 starts including the Gr.3 Vamos Stakes and the Listed Tasmanian Newmarket Handicap.
On two occasions able to win three in a row, Deroche is being given every chance to succeed at stud with her second foal being a filly by Extreme Choice.
Deroche is one of the six winners (from seven to race) for the three time winner Buzzing Along whose dam Almighty Buzz also fared well with six winners. And her dam Ring Me Soon had five including the stakes winning two-year-old Martelomeo, dam of the Gr.3 Blue Diamond Prelude winner Danaides.
Stakes winners The Huntress, Reigning Belle, Regal Crown, Cat In A Hat and Al Dhafra also hail from this reliable family – one which has its ancestress the influential matriarch Pearl Maiden who produced three different Classic winners including the champion Pearl Cap.
This colt’s pedigree brings together two of the great local influences – Redoute’s Choice and Encosta de Lago. Champion sires who have combined in the pedigrees of 72 stakes winners; 16 Gr.1 winners including Zoustar, Alabama Express, Jacquinot and the recent William Reid Stakes winner Schwarz.
