Our third purchase at the NZB Karaka 2023 Sale was this outstanding colt by promising second season sire GRUNT.
GRUNT himself was an outstanding individual at the yearling sales and was purchased by Cameron Cooke, who thought this colt was one of the best he’d seen by the sire. On the track, Grunt was a Flemington mile specialist, winning the Group 1 Australian Guineas as a three year old before returning the next season to take out the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes.
The dam SO VITAL is by the ever-consistent broodmare sire PENTIRE, who adds stoutness and toughness to this colt’s pedigree. She is a half sister to Karaka Millions winner SISTER HAVANA and is closely related to Golden Slipper winner OVERREACH and stakes winners REWARD FOR EFFORT, CATNIPPED and AMELIE’S STAR.
As an individual Simon loved this colt’s fluent stride and strong shoulder and has the scope to grow into a powerful middle distance horse.
This colt was a $100k purchase from Curraghmore Stud, the nursery of champions EFFICIENT, TOFANE and FIRST SEAL.
