Description
A stakes winner at two, a Group 1 winner at three and four. A son of the Champion Sire Exceed And Excel from the family of the Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes winning influential stallion Canny Lad. This is Bivouac, a horse who ticks all the boxes as a stallion prospect!
And what an exciting start the Darley based stallion has made with the stakes winners Beiwacht and Intention amongst his first four promising winners.
The winner of the Gr.2 Silver Slipper Stakes, Beiwacht is – like this eye-catching filly – out of a mare by the great stallion Street Cry who has had his influence felt throughout the world.
He is, of course, best known in this part of the world as sire of the superstar Winx and in the United States as the sire of Zenyatta. And now he is well and truly doing the job as a broodmare sire with his daughters already producing 63 stakes winners.
There are 15 Gr.1 winners amongst that tally including the globe-trotting star Romantic Warrior and the in-form gallopers Treasurethe Moment, Broadsiding and Tom Kitten.
September Run and Cylinder are also Gr.1 winners out of Street Cry mares and they are both by Bivouac’s high achieving sire Exceed And Excel.
Exceed And Excel is by Danehill – Street Cry is by that prolific stallion’s close relation Machiavellian. Exceed And Excel is out of a mare by Lomond from the same family as Machiavellian’s stallion Mr Prospector.
And so it is little wonder that this Exceed And Excel/Street Cry combination works so well… one which has 16 stakes winners amongst its 160 winners… one in ten!
A lightly raced mare who won her maiden at Cranbourne by three lengths before a Caulfield fifth at her third and final start, Folk Song has this season’s metropolitan winner Old Song as her first foal and the in-form (impressive winner of his last three) Autumn Song as her second.
She is one of the six winners produced by the Lion Hunter mare Sequential whose stakes winning son Excitable Boy also won races in Hong Kong.
Sequential is out of the classy broodmare Sequin whose six winners (from as many to race) include the stakes winners Order Of The Sun, Beauty and Get To Work as well as the dams of the talented gallopers Summer Passage (Gr.1 Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes) and All That Pizzazz (dual Listed winner) and the grandam of Aardvark (Listed Talindert Stakes).
Sequin’s dam Subterfuge by Machiavellian also excelled at stud with her nine winners including the Hong Kong based multiple Gr.1 winner Scintillation, the local four time Group winner Shania Dane and the Listed winner Risk Aversion.
Stakes winners Northwest Passage, Pacific Dragon, Man From Uncle and Head Of State are also descendants of Subterfuge whose Gr.3 winning dam Sandy Island by the great Mill Reef is another outstanding broodmare from this family… dam of the stakes winners Sandmason and Sardegna and ancestress of Sardonic, Persian Majesty, Mylady, Maigret, Royal Youmzain, Zuhoor Baynoona, Silex and the promising young New Zealand based dual Gr.1 winning stallion Hello Youmzain.
This is a family that has been producing topliners for generations with the runaway Epsom Derby hero Slip Anchor another of its members.
