On Thursday night First Light Racing filly Grey Northern broke through for a much deserved maiden win after taking on the best fillies of her generation throughout the Spring.
Jumping well from the kind gate, jockey Jamie Mott was able to find the perfect spot in the run behind the speed and settled nicely. Mindful of the 1400m journey first up, Jamie was able to cuddle her until it was time to click into gear in the straight where she let down with a lovely sustained sprint to score a tough win.
She’s a nice progressive filly who will continue to improve out in trip, with her likely next assignment the 1600m Mornington Guineas next Saturday.
Congratulations to First Light Racing and their wonderful group of owners and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this filly throughout the Autumn.
