The Team at Simon Zahra Racing celebrated their second city double of the year yesterday at Sandown with emphatic wins to stable favourites Little Stevie and Zac De Boss.
Little Stevie was coming off a desperately unlucky performance at Moonee Valley last start and was keen to set the record straight. Starting from the outside barrier she jumped nicely with jockey Thomas Stockdale cleverly opting to take a sit behind three wide with cover. As she rounded the bend at the 500m travelled sweetly into the race and put her rivals to the sword in the twinkling of an eye. When asked for an effort at the 200m mark she’d had the race all sewn up and raced clear to win with a leg in the air. A $60,000 purchase from the Inglis Classic Sale, Little Stevie has now won 5 races and amassed more than $200,000 in prizemoney – a terrific little money spinner for her connections.
Zac De Boss kept the party going the very next race after stringing together some really solid runs this campaign without winning. Jockey Damien Thornton showed his class, navigating Zac to the front from a tricky barrier and rating him perfectly to the corner. When it was time to press the button, Zac responded strongly along the rails and held off his more fancied rivals to score by 1.2L on the line. Another $60,000 purchase with the team at First Light Racing, Zac has now taken his tally to three wins, two of them in town, and still has plenty of upside for his owners going forward.
With the stable in ominous form, there’s never been a better time to come on board as an owner and if you’ve been thinking about joining the team, get involved!
