On Wednesday at Sale stable newcomer Chargenlikapluma broke through for a much deserved maiden win after being the bridesmaid in his first two runs for the stable. Aided by a lovely ride by Blaike McDougall, the Pluma settled back in the small field and peeled out down the middle, showing a terrific turn of foot. He hit the front and looked like he was going to bolt away from them but he thought the job was done and switched off with 50m to go, with the Matthew Brown trained horse to his inside kicking strongly. It was a tight photo but the Pluma hung on to prevail in what was an emotional win for owner Julie Cartledge, who’s husband recently passed, and her team of owners including strapper James Brownley.
It was truly wonderful to see the persistence of the ownership group who had originally retired the horse due to a throat condition, but stuck with him and went ahead with the surgery and are now reaping the dividends. Special mention to our vet, Stuart Vallance (Yep, here’s your shout out mate!) who did a great job with the horse and has got him in great condition. We now look forward to what the summer brings for this horse who has more wins in store.
