On Wednesday outstandingly bred Savabeel filly Bioluminescence was able to finally break her maiden status at Sale in the 1400m maiden. After finding one better on several occasions this preparation, Simon decided to give her a short 7 week freshen into the race in search of a dry track. This move proved a masterstroke from Simon as the smart mare was able to sit in behind the speed and show her lovely turn of foot over the shorter trip without the task of dealing with a heavy track.
Blaike McDougall knows the mare very well and was able to land her in an excellent spot just behind the speed. He was very patient and the run opened up early quite early in the straight and allowed Bioluminescence to sprint clear and hold off her rivals to score a long overdue win and add to her value as a broodmare with a midweek win.
We think this mare is city class and we’ll look to chase those class of races in the near future with her. Thank you to owners Waikato Stud for your patience with this mare and we’re sure we haven’t seen her in the winner’s stall for the last time.
